Panabo's FM Arca third in Fide World youth chess


Filipino Fide master Christian Gian Karlo Arca of Panabo City secured a third-place finish in the Fide World Youth Chess Championship in Montesilvano, Italy. Arca's victory over Norwegian chesser Isak Vinh Brattgjerd in the Caro-Kann Defense created a four-way tie for third place in the Boys under-14 section. With a total of 5.0 points, Arca joined Fide Master Magnus Ermitsch of Germany, FM Edgar Mamedov of Kazakhstan, and FM Pawel Sowinski of Poland. In the Boys under-18 section, FM Master Mark Jay Bacojo of the Philippines drew with Grandmaster Volodar Murzin of Russia, remaining in contention with 4.5 points. The Philippine chess team's strong start in the championship is supported by various organizations and officials in the country.
